What does GLBTQ mean?

GLBTQ stands for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer/Questioning.  Most people are familiar with the terms gay, lesbian, and bisexual.  The least understood (and most often confused) on the list are transgender and queer/questioning.  Read on for more insights.

G- Gay is a term used to describe people who are attracted to members of the same sex. This term is mostly used to describe men.
L- Lesbian is a term used to describe women who are attracted to other women.
B- Bisexual is a term used to describe people who are attracted to both sexes; however, a bisexual individual is not necessarily attracted equally to both sexes.
T-Transgender is a term used to describe someone whose gender identity (self-identification as woman, man, or neither) does not match the “assigned sex” (identification by others as male or female based on physical/genetic sex).
